waje for GoMA!
19th October 2009
Brian Cairnduff & Phil Burns invite you to a serious fun event:
waje @ GoMA
Official Launch Party - Saturday 31st October all day from 11.00 a.m. - not to be missed.
GoMA, Glasgow’s world renowned Gallery of Modern Art, leads the way in edgy, innovative exhibitions of work by local and international artists.
Now they are replicating this philosophy in their retail outlet.
waje (wall jewellery), a new concept in modern art presentation, was launched with stunning success at the recent Scottish Homes & Interiors Show at the SECC.
Michael Wright is Retail Manager for Culture and Sport, Glasgow. He says ‘This is a new way to sell art. We saw waje at the show and felt we had a duty to bring it to the people of Glasgow. This is a leading European city in terms of retail and culture, because of the attitude of its people. I think they will love the ingenuity and simplicity of waje‘.
waje is produced by local company AnElephantCant, owned by Glasgow artist Phil Burns and colleague Brian Cairnduff, in conjunction with Richard Fildes and Bill Laughlin of local art retailer 2canvas.
Burns describes waje as ‘Fine Art at Consumable Prices. It’s fun, but it’s also thought-provoking. The response at the show tells us that Glasgow is ready for waje.’
The secret behind waje is in the delivery - a silk-strength paper that feels like canvas backed with a ‘magic’ adhesive that allows it to be fixed to a wall, door or window, then removed and repositioned up to 200 times.
Hence the slogan:
Shuffle your waje!
So no glass, no nails, no mess. And the prices reflect the GoMA belief that art is for everyone.
Says Wright ‘Part of our Mission Statement is to enrich the lives of the people in Glasgow. This concept brings fine art within reach of everyone. The waje approach means it is easy to buy, easy to carry and easy to hang.’
Buy someone you love a waje for Christmas!
Official Launch Party - Saturday 31st October all day from 11.00 a.m. - not to be missed.
